Sydney’s hottest cafes, restaurants and chefs were awarded at the annual Time Out Sydney FoodAwards last night at Uccello. Over 300 of Sydney’s dining elite attended the party, battling it out across a mere nine categories presented by Appletiser, Vale Ale and Pepperjack. But it was Restaurant of the Year that was the real cliff-hanger.
“If there was a single moment that defined tonight’s Food Awards,” says Myffy Rigby, Time Out Australia’s chief food and drink critic, “it was that a little restaurant in an industrial part of Chippendale could beat out some of the city’s – no – country’s leading culinary heavyweights for this year’s gong. Congratulations to Ester, Time Out Sydney’s 2014 Restaurant of the Year”.
This year’s awards included all of Sydney’s favourites: Best Bang For Buck, Best New Restaurant, Best Café and Restaurant of the Year. The city’s rising stars were recognised with the Hot Talent Award and for the first time ever, the Chef of the Year Award was presented. Time Out Sydney readers also got involved with the People’s Choice Award.
